On Monday, August 19, 2013 Make-A-Wish® East Tennessee celebrated the granting of its one thousandth wish at Riverview Park in Chattanooga. Three-year-old Chattanooga native Cooper was to receive his wish for a Labradoodle puppy, but his family accepted the puppy on his behalf since he was recovering from surgery. Cooper’s family celebrated the wish with other Make-A-Wish families, donors and Chattanooga residents. Make-A-Wish® East Tennessee’s first wish child, Joey, who was referred in September 1988 and received his wish in March 1989, also attended the celebration with his family and presented Cooper's puppy, Oakley, to Cooper's family. In honor of the thousands of children the chain serves every year, Zaxby’s helped to grant the wishes of more than 50 children, including sponsoring Cooper’s wish. But the celebration didn't stop there on the following day, Cooper's Grandfather and Make-A-Wish® East Tennessee's staff traveled to Pittsburgh to The Children's Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center and presented to Cooper and his mom their new best friend. Cooper and his mom were also presented with cards and videos of well wishes from those that were apart of the celebration the day before in Chattanooga.
